Food Miles

Food miles (the distance food travels from farm to plate) has inspired many to become locavores and follow the “eat local” movement. But, the debate continues and there is more to it:

A recent environmental study suggests that if you really want to reduce global warming with your diet, it is better to change what you eat rather than where it comes from. Surprised? According to the study, it's agricultural and industrial practices (not transportation) that creates the most greenhouse gas emissions, with red-meat production the most energy-intensive of all foods.

Our perspective is that local food goes beyond greenhouse gases. Taste, quality, community, and supporting our farmers continues to be our inspiration for buying locally. Just as your mother said, "Eat your fruits and vegetables".
